As I wrote my post last week, I took a long, hard look at how I was living. I kept thinking, "Am I living my BEST life? Am I doing my BEST work? Am I giving God my BEST?" These are tough questions, but it was a first step in making some changes to my routine.
It starts with small things, but they are so much bigger. For example, I decided to take action and approach my health from a medical standpoint, which for my body means avoiding dairy, sugar, and gluten. It's not exactly my jam to say no to yummy macarons, but I feel so much better when I do.
I also downloaded the First5 app to change the way I start my mornings. I can tell you from years of experience that looking at emails and social media posts first thing in the morning is toxic! So, what is the opposite of starting with toxic? Starting with God.
First5 was developed by Proverbs 31 Ministries. The app serves as an alarm clock that will wake you up with scripture and a short teaching before you get caught up in Instagram and emails. The lessons are easy to understand -- because it IS first thing in the morning -- and the app even gives you space to connect with others and write out your own thoughts.
To be honest, it's hard for me to break the Instagram habit, but after what God has given me, I can give Him my first five minutes! And I'll tell you . . . it has been LIFE CHANGING to start my days this way. It gives me a positivity jolt instead of a caffeine jolt, so I might be breaking THAT habit soon, too . . . maybe.
"We must exchange whispers with God before shouts with the world."
And speaking of great authors like Lysa TerKeurst, I've just finished reading Chasing Slow by Erin Loechner. This book has changed my thinking to be less materialistic, especially since I also read The Life Changing Magic of Tidying Up this summer. There's really something to be said about getting rid of clutter. I only have 45 hangers in my closet -- so much easier to find an outfit now!
With just a few small changes (well, giving up dairy, sugar, and gluten isn't exactly small . . . ), I feel like I'm starting to transform my body AND attitude. For all the artists out there: this WILL help you feel more inspired, more creative, and more confident!! Like confident enough to tackle these venue illustrations for a few of my ETP brides. The painting to the left is for a wonderful wedding happening in ITALY, the one to the right is for a couple getting married at Morais Vineyard in Bealeton, VA. But doesn't it look like it could be right in the middle of Tuscany, too??
Now, I'm meant to be finishing up some work and packing for our family trip to Harry Potter World, so I'll leave the blog here. I cannot wait to be fully immersed in all things witchcraft and wizardry. ;)
